Introductory Orienteering evening in Biddulph Country Park!
|
Orienteering is defined as ‘a competitive sport in which runners have to find their way across rough country with the aid of a map and compass’. We will use the permanent course at Biddulph Country Park and while a compass could be useful, it isn’t obligatory. Some of the ground is soft and covered in undergrowth so a pair of trail shoes would be ideal.
Biddulph Country Park is located next to Biddulph Grange National Trust on Grange Road, Biddulph. There is plenty of (free!) car parking.
Runners will be invited to run either on their own or with a partner (non members welcome) and navigate a course of 14 marker posts (‘controls’) positioned around the Country Park. Runners will be set off at intervals between 6:45 & 7:15 and have an hour to visit as many of the controls as they can. Results will be announced at the Beartown Tap afterwards. A shorter, non-competitive course will also be available if you’d simply like to ‘have a go’.
If you fancy adding a bit of variation to your running this may be just the thing for you!
